Bimbo is one of the most talented and versatile actresses that Nigeria has produced.
Since debutingin Richard Mofe-Damijo’s Out of boundsin 1997, she has appeared in several Nollywood movies, includingTango with me,Heaven’s Hell, 93 Days and lately,Pathetic,a new movie produced by Dayo Amusa.
While reflecting onPatheticrecently, in an interview with Punch correspondent, the actress took a swipe at men who indulge in domestic violence, especially those who beat their wives or lovers.
Describing such men as weaklings, she said, “Any man that beats a woman, who can also kill a woman, obviously has issues with himself that he needs to deal with. It doesn’t matter if the victim is a celebrity or not.
Such a man beats his spouse because that ishis nature.”Bimbo also noted that different factors were responsible for domestic violence in many Nigerian homes and men beat their partners for different reasons.
“The problem with some men who beat women is lack of self-confidence. Some are violent because they grew up in homes where physical abuse is common.
They grew up seeing their parents beating up their spouses. Some other people who indulge in it may be having serious issues with their ego.
There are many reasons why there is physical abuse in some homes. And I don’t think it is possible to get rid of the vice,” she said.
The popular actress urged victims of domestic violence and women entangled in abusive relationships to speak up and seek help from other people outside their homes.
She said, “It is important for those who are in abusive relationships to understand that they are notat fault and they need to seek help.
It is most important that they go out there and talk to people. If you don’t feel comfortable, helplines are now available. A lot of NGOs now work with women and men who have been battered.
