Pregnant woman, 2 sons killed in Jos buildingcollapse...

A pregnant woman and two of her kids were in the early hours of Wednesday killed after six pillars recently constructed by her neighbour collapsed intoher home at Layin Farin Ruwa, Rikkos community of Jos North Local Government Area.

Daily Trust reports that the deceased, 30-year-old Hajiya Binta had died alongside her two sons: three-year-old Muhammadu Auwal and one-year-old Musa, whose lifeless bodies were dug out of the debris by neighbours.

The husband of the deceased, Sadau Adam, 63, told Daily Trust that the incident occurred around 4am while he had stepped out of the house and his wife and other members of the household were preparingSahur (pre-dawn meal).

Adam, a father of seven, said five other members of his household, including another pregnant woman, had been rescued.

He said his neighbour only erected the pillars two months ago in an attempt to support an area affected by gully erosion directly above their home for fear that it might collapse into his plot. “Everyone warned him not to go on with it.

All our neighbors told him to stop because the pillars had no foundation, but he insisted,” Adam said.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhassan Barde said individuals must learn to abide by building plans and called on all state agencies involved in town planning and safety and security to ensure that the necessary permits were obtained by individuals.

No election in Southeast Nigeria without Biafra referendum — Nnamdi Kanu..

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has warned that elections will be boycotted in the South East states starting with the Anambra State gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 18 if the Federal Government fails to hold referendum for the realisation of the state of Biafra.

“If the Federal Government does not agree with us on a date for referendum, there will beno elections in the southeast, we are starting with Anambra come November this year.

There will be no governorship election in Anambra State”, Mr. Kanu said while addressing a crowd of protesters in his father’s compound in Abia state.

It is not clear when the video was shot. If it happened after Mr. Kanu’s release from detention in April, then it would appear a violation of conditions set by Justice Binta Nyako when she granted Mr. Kanu bail in April.

Mr. Kanu, who is facing charges of treasonable felony at the Federal High Court in Abuja, has been at the vanguard of the call for an independent Biafra Republic from the Nigerian state.

In granting him bail in April after more than a year in detention, Justice Nyako listed 12 conditions, including an order for Mr. Kanu to avoid being seen in a crowd of more than 10 people. The court also instructed that Mr. Kanu desistfrom granting interviews or engaging in any form of rallies as part of his conditions for bail.

However, in the 16 minutes, 21 seconds videoposted on Youtube, Tuesday, Mr. Kanu who isseen speaking to a congregation of Biafran supporters also said there would be no form of election in the Southeast during the 2019 general elections, stressing that he would not relent in his agitation for Biafra.

Who is your favourite couple?

You can’t intimidate us, IPOB tells Osinbajo

The Indigenous People of Biafra on Tuesday tackled the Acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, over his comment to deal with Biafra agitators and hate mongers, saying that the group won’t be intimidated by such utterances.

Osinbajo had on Sunday warned that persons agitating for secession and the northern groups that issued the ultimatum to Igbo risked jail terms as they violated Nigeria’s laws.

He gave the warning at a consultative meeting with traditional rulers from the South-East at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Abuja.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Awka, Anambra State by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group said there was no law empowering Osinbajo to jail any group in the country who would seek self-determination.

It said the group was empowered by charters and conventions under international law to seek self-determination as an indigenous people.

It accused the acting President of standing the law on its head, adding that domesticatedcharters and conventions were binding on member countries.

Appeal court rules that EFCC can not freeze Ayo Fayose’s Zenith Bank Accounts..

An Appeal Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital today dismissed an interlocutory application brought before it by the EFCC against Governor Ayodele Fayose.

EFCC, in the application, sought to restrain the Zenith Bank Plc from allowing the governor to gain access to his accounts domiciled in the bank.

However, the Appeal Court panel comprising Justices Ahmed Belgore, Fatima Akinbami and Paul Elechi, in a unanimous verdict dismissed the application.Reading the judgment, Justice Akinbami said, “No valid appeal has been made against the judgement of the lower court which unfroze the account.

Again, the judgment the EFCC was appealing against was not attached to this application. EFCC also failed to show sufficient evidence that the money in the account was a proceed of crime as claimed.

In doingthis, we expect the EFCC to have shown evidence that the plaintiff has been tried for a criminal offencebefore for it to assume that he can receive the proceed of crime.“We also found that there was suppression of facts to get the account frozen in the first instance. It was also noted that Governor Fayose, in line with Section 308, enjoys immunity and his personal account can’tbe frozen.

Having not done all these as demanded by law and equity, as those facts were facts that would assist in exercising the court’s discretion either for or against as it is an application that is predicated on the discretion of the court, the application is hereby thrown out.

”The accounts were frozen back in June 2016 over allegations that they contained funds suspected to have been distributed through the office of the former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki.

However, Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti, unfroze the accounts in December 2016, after which the governor withdrew N5million from the accounts.  Consequent upon this, the EFCC filed an appeal against the judgement and prayed the court to freeze the accounts on the premise that the funds in the accounts were the proceeds of crime and pending the dispensation of justice on the matter to prove Fayose’s innocence.

Reacting to the judgment, Fayose’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) “Governor Fayose and myself haveagain been vindicated that EFCC’s operations have not been based on law but on emotion”.

2019: I will be president after Buhari – Fayose.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Friday in Ado Ekiti, declared that he would become the next president of Nigeria.

The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, boasted that he would oust President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC, from power in 2019.

His words: “I have penchant for taking powers; that one in Buhari’s hand.

I will take it. I’m going straight to that villa. I’m the next president.“I want to be the next president of Nigeria.

My own won’t be this change that has brought nothing, we are going to represent the people well and tell them the truth.”

Ijaw leader, Clark reacts to militants’ June 30 ultimatum to Okowa.

Leader of Pan-Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Chief Edwin Clark, on Monday appealed to New Delta Avengers towithdraw the ultimatum issued to Governor Ifeanyi Okowaof Delta State to tell the world how much was due to the Delta State Oil Producing Communities Development Commission, DESOPADEC, from the 13 percent derivation.

In a statement in Abuja, Chief Clark said it was already working to ensure that all the issues raised in the 16-point agenda were looked into by the Federal Government and that the Avengers’ concerns will be addressed by the body.

He said: “PANDEF is genuinely disturbed by this publication, which has come amidst the prevailing turmoil occasioned by some ethnic agitations in the country.

“Going by the allegations being canvassed by the New Delta Avengers, coupled with their threat of destruction of our vital national assets, PANDEF cannot afford to fold its arms, but has to quickly intervene and sue for the understanding of all to desist from any form of destructive action, as this will further bring more damage to the already degraded economic and environmental conditions we suffer in the region.

”The statement noted the various steps PANDEF had taken to address the issue of 13 percent derivation; Maritime University, Okerenkoko; modular refineries;pipeline surveillance; relocation of oil companies’ headquarters to the region, so as to engage the youths, among other matters.

“It is on this note that I wish to appeal to you, my dear children of the New Delta Avengers and all other groups, on behalf of PANDEF, to withdraw your ultimatum and give peace a chance because any action taken by you/us, will no doubt have adverse national consequences and may jeopardise the seemingly good intentions of the Federal Government for the region,” it added.

I’ll lead Nigerians against any military coup — Bakare

The Founder of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has warned against any military take over of government, vowing to lead a nationwide protest against any such act.

Bakare who was the vice presidential candidate to Muhammadu Buhari in 2011 under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) campaign of that year, also warned Nigerians to stop engaging in speculation over President Muhammadu Buhari’s health.

We don’t want the military to return to power.
I have said I will not participate in any protest again, but if the military dares return, I will personally mobilise all the forces in this country to hit the streets and protest.

It is not a threat but a promise,” Bakare said.Bakare said the civilian administration might be bad, it was still preferable because the military would only end up dragging the country back.

He said President Buhari was on a sure part to recovery, and warned Nigerians to desist from speculating about his health.

THEME: DON'T BE A PREY!

Memorise:

Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life. Proverbs 7:23

Read: Proverbs 7:7-23

7:7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

7:8 Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

7:9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:

7:10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

7:11 (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

7:12 Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)

7:13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

7:14 I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.

7:15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and l have found thee.

7:16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.

7:17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

7:18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

7:19 For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:

7:20 He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.

7:21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

7:22 He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

7:23 Tlll a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

MESSAGE

A negative experience many people have had to contend with is captivity. Captivity can mean bondage, slavery, imprisonment, detention or a lack of freedom. Captivity also comes in various forms. It can occur as a consequence of being captured in a battle, like it happened to Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Daniel 1:1-7). In this particular case, King Nebuchadnezzar invaded the nation of Israel and carried away some of the people into captivity. From that moment, these captives became slaves in a foreign land. Similarly, some people enter into captivity by falling into a trap set by the enemy. For instance, in Judges 16:14-15, the lords of the Philistines used a beautiful woman as bait for Samson. Today, there are several 'hunters' of destiny and life all around, setting all kinds of traps to get their prey. May you never be one of their victims!

One common trap people fall into today is the trap of adultery and fornication. The devil has several agents and means to use as bait, and believe it or not, he catches a lot of prey. He may use beautiful ladies like he did to Samson. Today's Bible reading describes how a prostitute sets a trap and catches her victim. She could use her seductive attire which reveals her curves and exposes sensitive parts of her body. She could also use her sweet flattering words, seductive make-up, perfumes or gait just to get her prey. When he finally yields, she leads him like an ox to the slaughter slab. Proverbs 7:23 says
''Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.”

Anyone being lured or enticed into lust should realise that it can never really be for his or her own good. Today, several female students have become easy prey for sugar daddies and evil horny lecturers because they erroneously think that they are getting something of value in return. How much can a man pay you to allow him to destroy your destiny or kill you? What score will a lecturer award you in exchange for your life? The victims of lust, immorality and adultery are really trading their precious lives for pittance. Are you in the captivity of adultery, thinking it benefits you because you are getting rapid promotion in your place of work? Don't be deceived! You are truly paying with your life! Repent, come to Jesus and cut off all hunters from your life! Break that relationship if your partner is pressurising you for sex as a basis for friendship. It is not worth it! Ask God to deliver you from every trap of the devil.

Prayer Point:

Father, deliver all our children, teens and youths from sexual immorality.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Joshua 20-21
Jeremiah 48:9-27

IN JESUS CHRIST NAME. AMEN!
GOOD MORNING.
MAY THIS WEEK BRING REST TO YOU!

THEME: ACCEPTED TIME

Memorise:

(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
2 Corinthians 6:2

Read: 2 Corinthians 6:1-2

1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

1:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

MESSAGE

God is never late for any appointment. He is always on time. Looking at the experiences of different people in the Bible, this has been shown to be true over and over again. For the man who had been sick for 38 years, when his appointed time finally came and the once-in-a-year miracle platform God had put in place could not meet his need, Jesus personally picked him out from the crowd and healed him by His own will (John 5:1-6). Also, when the appointed time came for the woman who had been bent over for 18 years, the Lord healed her without her asking for it (Luke 13:10-13). Habakkuk 2:3 says,
"For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry."

One thing you should learn from this is that God has a timetable, and His timetable may be completely different from yours. He has a set time for every event in the lives of His children. It is like setting an alarm clock to a particular time; when the alarm rings, God will address the issues at stake.

Another lesson worth learning is that until God's appointed time for a particular matter to be addressed dawns, God may appear silent on the issue, even when He has all the facts and figures of the situation at His disposal. lf He knows what an individual is going through, and He chooses to watch carefully and quietly, He may just be doing so in order to see how the fellow will respond to the situation. Would he stand in faith and resist the devil, or give up his faith and cling to doubt, fear and unbelief? Would he draw nearer to God or go further away from Him? Would he down tools and stop serving God, or would he continue serving God in the midst of no divine response to his problems? When God keeps quiet at such times, He may want to test your faith to see how elastic it is. lt may be very frustrating when God is silent on an issue, but never get to the point of thinking or believing that He does not know what you are going through. He knows it better than you do. He sees what you see and what you don't see within the circumstance. Just trust in Him and hold on to Him in faith. Love Him more, worship Him more, serve Him more and keep trusting Him more. In the end, you will be victorious.

Prayer Point:

Father, give me grace to endure till my appointed time, and when it dawns, let me see the manifestation of my good expectations.

TOPIC: AVOIDING GENERATIONAL DEPARTURE

MEMORY VERSE: ‘’Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set" - Proverbs 22:28

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1Samuel 2:12-17
INTRODUCTION:
God has laid down principles for children upbringing which must not be departed from (2Timothy 2:19). The anger of God kindles upon children who disobey God (Ephesians 5:6; Eccles 10:8 ). The role of parents is therefore crucial to the fulfillment of God's plan and purpose for His children (Deuteronomy 6:6-9). While there are records of children raised in godly ways who remained on that narrow path, the Bible also has records of those who departed from the path of truth.

LESSON OUTLINES

1. Children that departed from godly upbringing
2. How to avoid generational departure
CHILDREN THAT DEPARTED FROM GODLY UPBRINGING
Biblical examples of children that departed from godly ways include:
1. Samson (Judges 13:3-5; 14:1-3, 8-9; 16:16-17).
2. Hophni and Phinehas; sons of Eli (1Samuel 2:12-17, 22; 4:11).
3. Solomon (1Kings 11:4-7; Eccles 1:1; 2:10-11).
4. Nadab and Abitur; sons of Aaron (Leviticus 10:1; Numbers 26:61).
5. Demas (2Timothy 4:10).
HOW TO AVOID GENERATIONAL DEPARTURE
In other to keep our children on the path of righteousness, parents have the following obligations to fulfil:
1. Love God fervently (Deuteronomy 6:4-6). Have a deep personal relationship with God. You cannot pass on to your children what you do not possess (John 14:21; 15:10; 1John 5:3).
2. Teach your children diligently about God (Deuteronomy 6:7-9). If God's Word is on your heart continually, then you will be talking about it constantly with your children (Proverbs 4:3-4, Ephesians 6:4).
3. You need to answer your children's questions about God and the Christian life (Deuteronomy 6:20-25; 1Peter 3:15).
4. Focus on obeying and pleasing God only (Deuteronomy 6:17-18) and also train your children, in agreement with your spouse, to please God in all their endeavours.
5. Live out/model godly lifestyle before children (James 5:12; Matthew 5:16-17; Titus 2:7; 1Peter 5:3).
6. Discipline your children in love (Hebrews 12:6; Proverbs 3:11-12).
7. Inculcate emotional stability but do not indulge your children (Proverbs 19:18; Colossians 3:21).

CONCLUSION:

We should pray and seek God's direction in training our children that they would love God wholeheartedly. If you want to raise godly children, you must love God fervently, teach your children about Him diligently and live out a godly life for them to see.

QUESTIONS
1. Mention four biblical examples of children who departed from godly ways.

Muyiwa Ademola reveals major cause of death among actors

In the space of a month, at least four actors have died in Nollywood, the most recent being Moji Olaiya. No doubt, this is currently a sad time for the movie industry.

However, in a chat with ace actor and filmmaker, Muyiwa Ademola, he revealed the leading cause of death among actors.According to him, most of these deaths are caused by accumulated stress and could be avoided if one takes care of the body.

He said, “A very big problem we have in our industry is that we work round the clock, we spend nights at movie locations but we don’t go for medical check-up.

I have a doctor and I go for medical check-up every three weeks. Iknow when to take some days off work.“For instance, if I work for about two weeks, I take a few days off to relax. I would just eat and rest.

I also make sure I go on vacations and all I do in those times is just to eat and sleep. Most of the deaths in the movie industry are a result of accumulated stress without paying attention to one’s health.”

THEME: GOD: A WONDER

Memorise:

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. Isaiah 57:15

Read: Isaiah 57:15-16

57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

57:16 For | will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.

MESSAGE

"Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?" Exodus 15:11

One amazing thing you need to know about our God is that He is a wonder! For example, In 1 John 4:8, the Bible says that God is love, and yet in Hebrews 12:29, the same Bible says this God is a consuming fire! When you hear that God is love, you will think of embracing Him, but just then, you also hear that He is a consuming fire and you freeze, asking yourself if you want to embrace fire! Another wonder of God has to do with His size or form. The Scriptures say God is so big that the heaven and the heavens of heaven cannot contain Him (1 Kings 8:27). It also says that Heaven is His throne and the earth is His footstool, meaning that as He sits in Heaven His legs touch the earth (Isaiah 66:1). Just imagine how great and long those legs are! What of His arms? The Bible says His arms are everlasting and so long that they can reach any distance (Deuteronomy 33:27). When you try to picture how super-massive this God is, then you will begin to wonder how such a God can become small enough to reside inside of you. 1 John 4:4 says,
"Ye are of God little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."

God is truly awesome and a wonder we cannot comprehend. As massive as God is, He can still relate with us at our tiny, very little level. As high as He is, He can still reach down to those who are lowly placed or have a heart of humility. In fact, from the height of heights, God is able to see those who are of a humble spirit, and He relates with them while ignoring the proud. Are you like God? Is the position you occupy not distancing you from those who are not as fortunate or as privileged as you are? If you are truly of God, your privileged status will not hinder you from reaching out to those who are impoverished. Recently, the wife of one of the richest men on earth visited an African country and identified with the poorest people there by trekking a good distance to fetch water like the poor women there. She carried a bucket of water on her head and trekked all the way back. She also joined in washing the dishes in a very poor neighbourhood. That is a minute example of what Jesus did by leaving His heavenly throne and becoming a man (Philippians 2:5-8). Can you leave your throne to reach out to the lowly?

Key Point:

lf you have truly encountered Jesus Christ, there is nobody that you cannot relate with.

HYMN 3: HOW GREAT THOU ART

1. O lord my God!
When I’m in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds
Thy hands hath made;
I see the stars,
I heard the rolling thunder
Thy pow'r throughout
The universe displayed

Chorus
Then sing my soul,
My Saviour God to thee;
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul!
My Saviour God to thee;
How great Thou art,
How great Thou art!

2. When through the woods
And forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds
Sing sweetly in the tress;
When I look down,
From lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook,
And feel the gentle breeze.

Chorus

3. And when I think
That God, His Son not sparing
Sent him to die,
I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross,
My burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died
To take away my sin.

Chorus

4. When Christ shall come,
With shout of acclamation,
And take me home,
What joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow
In humble adoration,
And then proclaim
“My God, how great Thou art!”
