President Buhari today signed the Endangered Species Control Bill into law. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Sen. Ita Enang, made this known today in Abuja while briefing State House correspondents.

Recent reports of plastic rice in Nigeria were untrue as the suspicious shipment merely contained a significant amount of contaminants, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has said.
The acting Director-General of the agency, Yetunde Oni, at a press briefing on Thursday in Abuja, said though the rice was found not to be plastic, contrary to media reports, it wasstill “unwholesome for human consumption”.
There was anxiety in country earlier this month when a report stated that the Nigerian Custom Services had intercepted tonnes of plastic rice allegedly imported by unscrupulous businessmen for distribution during the Christmas festive period.
The Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, however debunked the report after some preliminary studies revealed otherwise.
He said there was no truth in the report and assured Nigerians that there was no cause foralarm.
However, the laboratory result which was made public Thursday confirmed the earlier declaration by the minister.
Mrs. Oni however said that the rice failed other integrity test which thus ruled it out for human consumption.

A 61-year-old man, Timothy Onyeukwu, has been arrested by the Abia State Police Command for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl and keeping her as a s3x slave in a hotel in Aba.
Onyeukwu was alleged to have tricked the victim into the hotel with ice cream and N200 and held her hostage for months.
A Punch correspondent gathered that the suspect was apprehended after the police got a tip-off and swooped on him at the hideout.
The victim was said to have been rescued and reunited with her parents.
Ernest Chigozie Mbanefo, a self-styled Nigerian pastor, says he is not the owner of MMM Nigeria but only a participant who has invested N3 million in the scheme, which “will last till Jesus Christ comes”.

MESSAGE
Spiritual warfare is an invisible battle that is waged in the spirit realm. The enemies cannot be seen with the physical eyes and the weapons of warfare are not physical as well. What is even more significant is that it is what happens spiritually that determines the physical manifestation that will be experienced by humans. A person overpowered in a spiritual war may become sick, paralyzed, or mad in the real world. Many that are attacked at night may develop an incurable sickness that will lead to their death within days. Some may be physically alright health-wise, but may begin to operate under a terrible demonic bondage that hampers growth of any kind, and this may go on for years unnoticed. These are prisoners living within invisible prison walls while appearing to be normal and free. Isaiah 49:25 says:
"But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children."
The worst type of imprisonment is being within invisible prison walls while appearing to be free. Nobody will offer to help you out because there will be nothing physical to suggest that you are imprisoned. The lame man in Acts 3:1-18, was physically born into a prison of sickness and was there for over 40years, he was in a physical prison, obvious to everyone, but most people are in spiritual prisons, invisible prisons. One of my uncles, who studied in Britain returned, and in an attempt to protect himself from forces of darkness, went to meet an herbalist and obeyed the man's instructions to the letter. He got seven leaves of a particular plant, spread them on the floor and defecated on them. Thereafter, the herbalist gave him a particular powder to spray on his faeces and instructed him to eat it. After this, he returned home boasting that since nobody touches faeces, nobody could touch him. He almost died of cholera! Some professors, despite all their Western education, still bow to trees and worship various objects because they are in a spiritual prison. A medical doctor who knows and teaches people about the dangers of smoking but still smokes himself is imprisoned spiritually.
It is not enough to point accusing fingers at somebody somewhere, consider your life and find out if there is any trace of imprisonment. Prayerfully take steps to break loose from it.
When you are free from physical and invisible prisons, then you are truly free.

The premises of a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Mega Station located at the Control Post junction in Owerri, the ImoState capital, has been deserted following the alleged killing of one Friday Nduka (Pictured above), by a police Inspector, Mike Edem, whowas on duty at the station.
Punch's correspondent learnt that the victim, who returned from Malaysia for his wedding in Owerri on December 27, 2016, hailed from the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.He was reportedly shot dead on December 22by the trigger-happy policeman, who is now at large, in the presence of his fiancée and younger brother.
An eyewitness told Punch’s correspondent that Nduka got into in a serious argument with one of the pump attendants over his missing iPhone 7.
He said the argument degenerated into a fightand Nduka, inflicted injuries on the attendant.The witness said the manager of the station, Mrs. Ruth Enemmuo, who is now in police detention, intervened, adding that as soon as Nduka entered into his car, the police inspector fired, killing him instantly.
It was learnt that the inspector fled the area and had not been seen.The manager later went to the police station to report the killing, but was detained immediately.
A human rights lawyer and counsel to the detained NNPC manager, Kissinger Ikeokwu, said there was no reason for the police to detain the NNPC station manager.“Now, the police are saying that my client should produce their own fleeing officer,” he added.The woman, who spoke to Punch’s correspondent from her cell, said all the station’s attendants, including the one that had an altercation with the deceased, were onthe run.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the incident and described the inspector as unruly.Enwerem stated that the Inspector-General of Police had mandated the Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, to apprehend the fleeing inspector.

Life is full of battles. This is confirmed by the Word of God in Job 5:7 which says that man is born into trouble. What determines whether you will be a victim or victor in the battles of life is who you choose as your ally.
In Mark 5 : 25 - 34, we read about a woman with the issue of blood. She went through a lot in her battle with that sickness. If you do not think sickness is a serious thing, just ask for stomach pain for one hour, and then you will know that sickness is a war. Every agent of sickness fighting against your health shall be destroyed in Jesus' name. Poverty is also a war, Proverbs 10 : 15 says poverty destroys. The poor is a victim or captive of the spirit of poverty, and the poor who refuses to fight the spirit of poverty will die poor. Besides, poverty makes your relations hate or look down on you ( Proverbs 14 : 20 ). That means that if you refuse to fight against poverty, those who should become your friends will be your enemies. If you do not want to lose your loved ones, you must win the battle against poverty. Poverty shuts you up; it robs you of your right to the freedom of speech. The foolish ideas and opinions of the rich are heard at the roof tops while the most brilliant ideas of the poor are unheard. In any way poverty has shut you up; the Lord will reverse the situation today in Jesus' name. The book of 2 Corinthians 10 : 4 says :

All we need is to be equipped with the Word of God, live a holy life, and have strong faith in the saving Power of the Lord Jesus.
Barrenness is also a war. When Hannah was still childless, she was put in perpetual sorrow. She lost her right to joy. Is barrenness denying you of the joy of the Lord? The Lord will intervene and deliver it into your hands this season in Jesus' name. Another thing to fight is bondage. The man in Mark 5 : 1 - 15 was in bondage. He lost the right to do what he wanted. When Paul saw himself doing what he hated, he knew he was in the same bondage as the mad man of Gadara ( Romans 7 : 15 - 25 ). Yet, in both cases, God gave victory. Paul did not mince words; he called it a war. Are you struggling with sin? Start a fight against bondage. The Lord who rescued Paul and the Gadarene will give you victory over sin and your flesh today in Jesus' name.

A top member of the Boko Haram sect has been arrested in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state on Saturday.
This was revealed by Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff.Buratai said this during the reopening of two major roads in the state.
The roads – Maiduguri-Gubio-Damasak and Maiduguri-Monguno-Baga – were closed during the height of the activities of the insurgents in 2013.
He charged his men to arrest fleeing members of the sect.“You must maintain the momentum of the operation.
We must pursue the terrorists wherever they are. We must not allow them toregroup,” he said.

The Federal Road Safety Corps has warned motorists to be conscious of the foggy weather condition associated with the Harmattan season.
The Head, Media Relations and Strategy, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, explained that a thick fog enveloped some parts of the Abuja-Lokoja highway between 5.00am and 7.30 am in the past week, especially the 30km stretch between Yangoji and Awawa (near the NNPC pump station), with visibility challenges not beyond 70 metres on most stretches of the highway.He added that the same climate situation is playing out along other major corridors of our highways.

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu TambuwalGovernor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has said that coal in commercial deposits had been discovered in the state.
Tambuwal disclosed this in a statement issued by his spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, on Monday in Sokoto.The governor described the discovery as a major boost to Federal Government’s efforts at diversifying the country’s economy.
This discovery boosts Sokoto’s share of solid minerals awaiting exploration by the authorities,’’ he said.Other solid minerals earlier discovered included phosphate for making fertiliser, gold, limestone, gypsum, iron ore, copper, columbite, tantalite, zinc and kaolin, among others.Tambuwal made the revelations during a capacity building workshop on Special Purpose Vehicles for beneficial participation of state governments in mining.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development and the state Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources Development.
“The state government has already engaged a Chinese company to make research on the available mineral resources, determine their locations and their commercial viability.
The company has presented the first phase of its findings and identified 20 varieties of solid minerals,” Tambuwal said.
On coal, the governor said that the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria, otherwise known as Sokoto Cement and owned by the BUA Group,has started using the mineral as a source of energy in operating its plant.
“BUA will use coal sourced from Sokoto to fuel the 40MW power plant being constructed at the factory.
“The new cement plant can use both coal and LPFO , and will source its power needs from the power plant.“The excess power generated will be moved to the national grid,” said the governor.

An audio recording played on Russian media and said to be the final conversation between air traffic controllers and the pilot reveals no sign of any difficulties being faced by the crew.
Voices remain calm until the plane disappears and the controllers try in vain to re-establish contact.
Reports from the area said flying conditions were favourable.President Vladimir Putin had said Monday would be a day of national mourning.

Outgoing U.S. President Barack Obama has told incoming President Donald Trump to accept the fact that there is only one U.S. President at a time.
Mr. Obama also told the president-elect that he remains the U.S. President till Jan. 20, 2017, when he would complete his two-term presidency of the U.S. and handover to Mr. Trump.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mr. Obama’s remarks followed what the White House termed as Trump’s undue interference in U.S. policies since his election.
The president-elect had on Thursday directedthe U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power, to veto the Security Council’s Resolution on Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory.However, the Obama administration disregarded Mr. Trump’s directive and had gone ahead to abstain from voting on the resolution when it finally came up on Friday, drawing criticisms from the president-elect and his team.
The White House, in a response by Mr. Obama’s Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications, Ben Rhodes, obtained by NAN, said the UN Security Council’s Resolution was a policy issue that Trump should not meddle in.
“On the President-elect, the first thing I’d just say is that there’s one President at a time.
“President Obama is the President of the United States until January 20th, and we are taking this action (abstention), of course, as U.S. policy,” he said.

A close friend of President Muhammadu Buhari and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Brig.Gen. Jafaru Isa (retd.), has returned N170m to the Federal Government.
Isa, who is a former military governor of Kaduna State, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Januaryfor allegedly receiving N170m from the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).
He was, however, released by the EFCC after returning N100m to the commission with a promise to pay the balance of N70m.
A reliable source at the EFCC stated, “I can confirm to you that Jafaru Isa has returned the balance of N70m to the Federal Government’s purse.
This brings the total amount of money he has returned to N170m.

The pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been listed as a key witness against a former Governor of Delta State, Mr. James Ibori, who the Federal Government is attempting to repatriate from the United Kingdom, according to Punch.
Ribadu had in an affidavit accused Ibori of giving him $15m in 2007 so that the EFCC boss would not initiate a case against him.After receiving the cash, however, Ribadu entered it into evidence after which it was kept in the vault of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Ribadu had said, “Ibori approached me with$15m to stop his investigation. The money was brought in sacks.
I called my people because the money was in big bags, which two people could not carry and we deposited it in the CBN as evidence against him.
”In July 2012, the EFCC approached a Federal High Court in Abuja, requesting for a final order forfeiting the $15m Ibori bribe which had been in the vaults of the CBN for more than five years to the Federal Government as unclaimed proceeds of crime.Justice Gabriel Kolawole on October 25, 2013,awarded the Federal government ownership of the $15m Ibori bribe which is the subject oflegal tussle between the EFCC and the Delta State Government.
The ex-governor, who spent four years in a UK prison, was released on Wednesday. Some of his supporters had also kicked against attempts by the Federal Government to arraign him in Nigeria next year, insisting that it would be unjust for him to be tried twice for the same crime.
A source at the EFCC, however, said, “Ibori’s alleged crimes are many. He was convicted on 10 counts of money laundering and conspiracy to defraud.
“He can be charged with offering gratification to a public officer in order to refrain from acting in the exercise of his official duties regarding the investigation of the petition against him. This is not double jeopardy.”

MESSAGE:
There is a category of people that God is counting on to spread the Gospel to the uttermost parts of the world. We can see how powerful the testimony of a witness could be in our Bible reading today. In Matthew 5:14, Jesus declared all followers of Jesus as the light of the world and He went further in Mathew 5:16 to say:
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
We are therefore called to be witnesses to the Power of God in our lives, sharing the testimony of His saving Power, Goodness, Mercy, Faithfulness, Love, Blessing, and the Miracles with the people of the world.
1John 1:5 says:
“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declared unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”
Many perpetually live in darkness without any hope of deliverance; many are in bondage to sin, sickness, poverty, and lustful desires. God is counting on you to share the testimony of your salvation, healing, deliverance, and victory over demonic powers with somebody today.
Once I was blind. As you begin to share your experience from today, God will turn you to a mighty beam of light that will shine into the kingdom of darkness to liberate souls that are in bondage in the mighty Name of Jesus.
Testifying to the Glory of God is not only beneficial to others; it also provides an opportunity to destroy the stronghold of the devil in your life. Revelation 12:11 says:
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.”
One sure way of repelling those who want to drag you into sin is by confronting them with the light of the Gospel. Also, when light shines in a dark environment, all secret activities will be exposed. Do you know that it is possible for you to know the secret thoughts and plans of your enemies before their implementation? To do this, let the light of God’s Word shine in your heart and be full of the Holy Spirit. There is hardly and significant thing that takes place on earth without God first revealing it to one of His confidants (Psalms 25:14). In addition, when light comes, it propels you into action. Not many people want to perform brain tasking assignments when it is dark. If you allow the light of Jesus to shine in your heart, you will be supernaturally propelled to pick up your lost destiny and fulfil it. So, arise and shine, let your light shine bright in the dark places of the earth, share your testimony, let the whole world see what the Lord has done for you.
Prayer Point:
Father, please give me a voice; let the whole world hear my testimony very soon.

MESSAGE
The Bible in several passages referred to God as the good Shepherd, but in the book of John 10:14, Jesus boldly declared, “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.” Also in John 10:27, God says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”. The Lord is omniscient, He is all knowing, nothing is hidden from His sight, and He therefore has a very good knowledge of the identity of all human beings. Furthermore, 2nd Timothy 2:19 says:
“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal; The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
Every Christian is hereby encouraged to depart from all forms of immorality in order to benefit from the heavenly package reserved for true children of God.
Because God paid for the salvation of humanity with His Son’s Blood, Christians in the world are precious to Him. Hence, the Lord will always keep His obedient children from partaking in the judgement of sinners. An example of this is recorded in 1st Kings 14:7-16. Jeroboam was a very wicked king. He did not only sin, but caused so many to sin with him. When God pronounced judgment on him, his entire family faced extinction. He had many sons who all perished with him, but Abijah was spared because he towed the path of righteousness. When judgment is determined against families, yours will be spared in Jesus’ name. When cities and communities are to face disasters and destruction, you will be spared.
If you love to do God’s will all the time and diligently obey His voice, He will keep you from judgment. When He brought plagues of Egypt, in the land of Goshen where the Israelites lived, there was no trace of the plaques (Exodus 8:21-23). God separated His own from those who were not His. 2nd Timothy 2:19 says no matter what people claim, God knows His people. Are you one of God’s sheep? It is not enough to claim to be a child of God; does God know you as His bona- fide son or daughter? If you are not sure, check your life and be reconciled to God today. If you are recognized by God, there is a hiding place reserved for you in Christ where you will not be a casualty in time of judgment. Like the psalmist, you shall only see and hear of those who are causalities but you shall never be touched (Psalms 91:7-8). Once again, are you among the faithful few?

Ancient Asaba town and its environs were literally paralysed on Wednesday in jubilation,following news of the release of ex-Governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori.
The news of his release from London prison where he had served 10-year jail term for money laundering and other offences filtered into Asaba and its environs in the early hours.
Various Quarters’ residents, especially Asaba youths, rolled out their drums to celebrate theman they described as “Odidigborigbo.
”The youths sang Asaba-Ibo songs along Nnebisi Road, Summit Junction, Okpanam Road and Anwai Road where they danced freely to drumbeats, causing serious traffic gridlock.Security agents and the popular Ogbeogonogo Market Women were not left out in the jubilation.
The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Peter Mrakpor, who spoke to journalists in Asaba, described Ibori’s release as a welcome development; adding that his contributions tonation building cannot be overemphasised.
“I’m particularly grateful and hope that the Federal Government would grant him state pardon,” Egodike said.
The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the Ministry of Finance Whistleblowing Programme that may see individuals who give government genuine information on stolen or concealed funds smiling home with between 2.5 percent and five percent of the funds when recovered.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun; and the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting Presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Adeosun said the programme was designed to encourage anyone with information about a violation, misconduct or improper activity that impacts negatively on Nigerians and government to report such.
The Imo State Police Command has, at last, arrested a notorious gang leader, Chigozie Obinna Onuoha that has been terrorising the citizens of the state and beyond.
The 22-year-old Onuoha, popularly called ‘Nwa Pastor’ was said to be on the wanted list of the Command for various heinous crimes ranging from armed robbery, murder and involvement in cult activities.
Onuoha, since after his arrest on December 4,2016 has been giving useful information to the police about other members of the cult group who have been terrorising the state.
Briefing journalists, the State Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, said Nwa Pastor wasarrested at the Nekede Mechanic Village by the beach following a tip-off.

33 year old commercial motorcycle rider, Segun Ogunlusi, pictured above, who was recently arrested for killing his 60 year old mother, Abimbola Ogunlusi,at their home in Ogijo area of Ogun State, today confessed to the crime, saying his mother's high demand for sex from him made him kill her and bury her corpse in a shallow grave.
Ogunlusi while confessing, said that after he hacked his mother to death, he poured kerosene on her remains but later buried her when the corpse failed to catch fire."
My mother kept saying if I had sex with her I would be free. On a particular Tuesday morning, when two of us were at home, she was in the kitchen, I walked up to her and stabbed in the stomach and she died.
I poured kerosene on her corpse in a bid to burn her but it did not catch fire. Later, I dumped the corpse ina soakaway pit,” he said

A former President of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara,has called on the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, to resign his appointment following indicting security reports about him.
Mr. Wabara, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja, also called for the resignation of on the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal.
The Senate had called for the resignation of Mr. Lawal for his alleged involvement in diversion of funds meant for humanitarian services in the North-East.
Mr. Wabara urged the duo to resign on moral grounds, saying it did not matter if the allegations against them were proved or not.
